  • ANEEL

    Agência Nacional de Energia Elétrica

    National Electric Energy Agency: a special-regime federal agency linked to the Ministry of Mines and Energy, created by Law 9,427/1996 to regulate Brazil’s power sector (generation, transmission, distribution and trading), oversee concessions and permits, set tariffs and grant authorizations under powers delegated by the Federal Government.

  • ONS

    Operador Nacional do Sistema Elétrico

    National Electric System Operator: responsible for coordinating and controlling the operation of power-generation and transmission facilities in the SIN, and for planning the operation of Brazil’s isolated systems, under ANEEL’s oversight and regulation.

  • CCEE

    Câmara de Comercialização de Energia Elétrica

    Electric Energy Trading Chamber: operates electricity trading within the SIN in the Free and Regulated Contracting Environments (ACL and ACR), following ANEEL regulations. Its statutory duties include calculating the short-term market PLD for each submarket.

    Preço de Liquidação das Diferenças

    Difference Settlement Price: the short-term market price calculated by CCEE for each submarket and used for the accounting and financial settlement of electricity purchases and sales in the short-term market (Decree 5,177/2004).

  • Bandeira tarifária

    bandeiras tarifárias

    A system that signals the actual cost of electricity generation to consumers. The colors (green, yellow or red), set monthly, indicate whether electricity will cost more or less depending on generation conditions. It applies to regulated utility customers, except those in isolated systems.

    Tarifa de Uso do Sistema de Distribuição

    Distribution System Use Tariff: the tariff component for use of distribution networks. ANEEL publishes historical series and datasets for each utility’s TUSD (and Energy Tariff — TE).

    Tarifa de Uso do Sistema de Transmissão

    Transmission System Use Tariff: a tariff calculated under ANEEL’s Tariff Regulation Procedures (PRORET), particularly Submodule 9.4 (TUST and the Itaipu Transmission Tariff).

  • MUST

    Montante de Uso do Sistema de Transmissão

    Transmission System Use Amount: the capacity, in MW, contracted by a user for use of the transmission system / Basic Grid. PNAST applies to users obtaining permanent access for the first time or increasing an existing contracted MUST.

  • EUST

    Encargo de Uso do Sistema de Transmissão

    Transmission System Use Charge: the amount due for use of the transmission system. In the simplified monthly estimate, it is the applicable TUST multiplied by the contracted MUST.

  • Rede Básica

    rede basica

    The transmission network of the National Interconnected System that generators and consumers access under transmission-segment rules. The National Policy for Access to the Transmission System (PNAST) modernizes access to the Basic Grid through periodic Access Seasons.

  • MMGD

    Micro e Minigeração Distribuída

    Distributed Micro- and Minigeneration: generating facilities using renewable sources or qualified cogeneration, connected to the distribution network through consumer units. Microgeneration: installed capacity up to 75 kW; minigeneration: above 75 kW and up to 3 MW (up to 5 MW in specific cases under Law 14,300/2022).

  • SCEE

    Sistema de Compensação de Energia Elétrica

    Electric Energy Compensation System: allows surplus electricity injected into the grid by an MMGD unit to offset consumption at the same unit or at other units, depending on the participation model. Credits are valid for 60 months.

  • Fio B

    TUSD Fio B

    Sector shorthand for the tariff components related to remuneration of distribution assets, the regulatory reintegration quota (depreciation), and distribution-service operation and maintenance costs. Law 14,300/2022 does not use the expression “Fio B”; Article 27 applies increasing percentages of these components to compensated active electricity.

  • GD

    geração distribuída

    Distributed generation: consumer-owned generation from renewable sources or qualified cogeneration, with the option to inject surplus electricity into the distribution network for compensation under the SCEE — the MMGD framework began with ANEEL Resolution 482/2012 and was consolidated by Law 14,300/2022 and Resolution 1,000/2021.

    Tarifa de Energia

    Energy Tariff: the tariff component for electricity itself on a regulated customer’s bill. ANEEL publishes historical series and datasets for utilities’ TE and TUSD, as well as reports on residential tariff composition.
